This is my first attempt at a blog, so be gentle.
I first started a music-related website in 1999 when I suggest to Mary Whittaker that I would have a go at putting her Leicestershire Anti-Clash Diary onto the internet. Since then I have added rehearsal files to help choir members learn their parts.
This has being going splendidly, with lots of kind comments from users. However late last year, Apple Inc, who have hosted my site from the start, declared that they were going to stop offering hosting facilities from 30 June 2012. Despite lots of protests from concerned Apple users, they are sticking to their plan.
Christmas and New Year came and went, when I realised that I had to do something about this. All the work in creating the rehearsal files was going to be wasted if I didn't. So I have chosen a new hosting company and tried to work out how I was going to transfer the 40,000 rehearsal files to a new site.
As it happens, the transfer of the files was the easy part: what is taking time and care is the setting up of the listings pages and ensuring the individual pieces link up to their correct files. I have worked out a scheme, although the site may look a little disorganised for a few more weeks.
I will keep you informed.
